Industrial hemp is legal in the Czech Republic under Act No. 167/1998 Coll., which permits cultivation of Cannabis sativa varieties containing up to 1.0% THC. Growers cultivating more than 100 square metres must notify the State Institute for Drug Control (SÚKL) and submit annual reports detailing variety, area, and disposal of harvested material. EU-listed seed varieties from the Common Catalogue may be planted without additional licensing.
The Ministry of Agriculture and the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority oversee hemp seed and CBD-flower agriculture, fibre processing, and food applications. Czech hemp food products — hemp seed, hemp oil, hemp protein — circulate freely under EU food law. The 1.0% THC threshold (raised from 0.3% in 2022) makes the Czech Republic one of the most permissive industrial hemp regimes in the EU.
