CBD exists in a legal gray area that defaults to prohibited in the Dominican Republic. Law 50-88 controls cannabis and its derivatives without distinguishing CBD from THC, and the Ministerio de Salud Publica (MSP) has issued no separate CBD framework — meaning hemp-derived CBD oils, tinctures, edibles, and cosmetics are technically classified as controlled substances regardless of THC content.
In practice, CBD products are not approved by the Direccion General de Medicamentos, Alimentos y Productos Sanitarios (DIGEMAPS) for sale as medicines, supplements, or cosmetics. Some imported CBD cosmetics circulate informally through e-commerce and tourist-area shops, but they lack legal status and have been subject to DNCD and customs seizures. As of May 2026, no draft regulation creating a CBD carve-out has progressed in Congress.
Travelers carrying personal CBD products — even those legal in their home country — face risk of seizure and potential prosecution under Law 50-88. A doctor's prescription from another country is not recognized for cannabis-derived products.

Import and export of CBD products is not permitted. DIGEMAPS does not register CBD as a medicine or supplement, and the DGA treats CBD shipments as controlled cannabis derivatives under Law 50-88. Commercial importers risk seizure and criminal liability; travelers risk confiscation and arrest.
