Industrial hemp cultivation is not established in the Faroe Islands. The Faroese government holds devolved competence over agriculture, but no domestic hemp licensing regime has been enacted by the Logting; Danish regulations and EU-aligned variety listings do not directly apply because the Faroe Islands are outside the European Union. The cold, windy maritime climate has historically discouraged Cannabis sativa cultivation in favour of grass forage, potatoes, and sheep farming.
Without a permit system, any cultivation of Cannabis sativa - including certified low-THC varieties - is treated as cannabis cultivation under the Euphoriants Act. The Faroese food authority Umhvorvisstovan has not approved hemp-derived novel foods, and TAKS treats imports of hempseed food, fibre, or hempcrete as cannabis-related goods absent a specific authorisation.

Hemp imports and exports require authorisation that has not been issued. TAKS treats Cannabis sativa material at Vagar Airport and the Torshavn port as a controlled cannabis good under the Euphoriants Act. The Faroe Islands' exclusion from the European Union means EU industrial-hemp variety listings do not provide a direct import pathway.
