Industrial hemp is illegal in The Gambia. The Drug Control Act 2014 defines cannabis to include the whole plant without distinguishing low-THC industrial hemp from psychoactive varieties. The Ministry of Agriculture has not issued cultivation licences for hemp, and the country's National Agricultural Investment Plan focuses on groundnuts, rice, horticulture, and livestock rather than hemp.
No commercial hemp cultivation, fibre processing, seed sales, or hempseed-food production is permitted. Imports of hemp seed, hempcrete, hemp textiles, or hemp-based food ingredients are treated as controlled-cannabis imports absent a specific exemption, which has not been issued. There is no legislative proposal to create a hemp regime.
