Recreational marijuana is illegal in Guinea. Law L/2016/057/AN of 28 December 2016 on the control of drugs and psychotropic substances classifies cannabis (locally yamba or diamba) as a stupefiant. Article 100 sets penalties for possession at one to two years' imprisonment and a fine of GNF 1,000,000 to GNF 10,000,000; trafficking carries five to ten years, with aggravated terms up to twenty years.
The Office Central Anti-Drogue (OCAD), under the Direction Centrale de la Police Judiciaire, leads enforcement in Conakry, Kankan, and along the Liberian and Sierra Leonean borders. The Forest Region around Nzerekore is a known cultivation area. Possession at Conakry International Airport (CKY) leads to prosecution; tourists are not exempt. The 2016 Code modernised earlier 1998 legislation but did not introduce decriminalisation or a medicinal access pathway.
