Recreational marijuana is decriminalized in limited circumstances in Saint Lucia. The Cannabis (Decriminalisation for Religious Purposes) Bill 2021 allows Rastafarian adherents to possess up to 30 grams and cultivate up to four plants per household for religious use, while general recreational use remains a criminal offense under the Drugs (Prevention of Misuse) Act.
Outside the religious exemption, possession of small amounts can still attract fines of XCD 500-2,000 (about USD 185-740) or up to 3 years imprisonment for repeat offenders. The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force enforces, and the Customs and Excise Department screens at Hewanorra International Airport. Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has signaled openness to broader reform; a parliamentary review of the wider Drugs Act is ongoing as of 2026. Until that completes, tourists remain subject to the original prohibition regardless of Rastafarian status.
