Industrial hemp falls within the licensed cannabis framework of the Medicinal Cannabis Industry Act 2018. The Medicinal Cannabis Authority (MCA) administers cultivation and processing licenses, including for low-THC hemp varieties intended for fiber, seed, and extract use.
The MCA's Traditional Cultivators Cooperative pathway permitted historic growers to transition into licensed cultivation, supporting both medicinal cannabis and hemp production. Hemp seeds and fiber products may be imported by licensed operators. Unlicensed cultivation remains prosecuted under Cap. 219 regardless of THC level. SVG positions itself as a Caribbean hub for medicinal cannabis and hemp exports to Canadian and European partners.
