The Misuse of Drugs Act 1973 lists cannabis as a Class A controlled drug and criminalizes possession, import and trafficking of the plant in any form, with the Central Narcotics Bureau warning that products of the Cannabis sativa plant or its seeds fall within the Act even in trace amounts. Trafficking, importing or exporting more than 500 grams of cannabis carries the mandatory death penalty. Singapore has no hemp cultivation framework, so viable hemp seed is treated no differently from marijuana seed, and the CNB actively pursues importers and retailers.
