Bahrain's Law No. 15 of 2007 on Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances classifies cannabis as a Schedule I prohibited substance and forbids growing, importing or exporting prohibited plants at any phase of growth, a prohibition that expressly extends to seeds. There is no medical cannabis programme, hemp licensing scheme or collector allowance of any kind. Trafficking and cultivation offences can attract fines up to 50,000 Bahraini dinars, life imprisonment or the death penalty, and even trace possession is prosecuted. Foreign nationals convicted of drug offences face deportation after sentence.
