Overview
Cova is a point of sale and inventory company for cannabis retailers, operated by Retail Innovation Labs LLC, trading as Cova Software. It lists a US head office in Denver and a Canadian head office in Vancouver, and says it supports more than 2,200 cannabis retailers across North America. Cova launched its cannabis POS in 2017. As of October 2026, its Markets We Serve page lists 23 US states and six Canadian provinces.
The POS is cloud-based and runs on Microsoft Azure infrastructure. Cova's FAQ says the POS currently runs on Android, and an iPad can be repurposed to run the Self-Serve Menu. All plans include unlimited users and transactions, plus offline mode, which lets a store keep processing sales if Wi-Fi drops. Operators with several stores, brands or entities can manage them centrally. Cova also sells a separate POS for CBD and hemp retailers.
For compliance, Cova connects to statewide traceability systems including Metrc and BioTrack, and its FAQ describes a two-way Metrc integration that automates most tracking and reporting tasks. The software calculates purchase limits, applies taxes automatically and includes an ID scanner with age verification. The pricing page describes the Metrc and BioTrack integration as state-approved.
As of October 2026, Cova publishes US pricing in three tiers. The Boutique plan starts at $349 per month with Cova Pay ($389 without) and covers up to two POS workstations. The Powerhouse plan is $499 per month with Cova Pay ($599 without) and covers up to four. Enterprise pricing is quoted for large multi-store retailers and franchises. Plans include no-fee integrations with Leafly, Weedmaps, Carrot, Solink, KayaPush and Alpine IQ, plus cashless ATM debit payments. Built-in ecommerce is an add-on listed at a promotional $149 per month with no setup cost, and inventory, pricing and promotions update automatically.
The POS accepts ACH and debit payments, and credit cards for Canadian and CBD retailers; Cova launched Cova Pay in Canada in 2023. Cova says its POS connects to more than 30 cannabis technology partners. In December 2021 Waitr signed a non-binding letter of intent to acquire Cova, and in March 2022 Cova's CEO wrote that the negotiations had ended.
