Overview

Emerald Intel is a business-to-business data provider that focuses only on the cannabis industry, and its 2026 press materials describe coverage of both cannabis and hemp. John Stanfill is its co-founder and CEO. In October 2025, Cannabiz Media announced that it had been acquired by Emerald Intel.

As of October 2026, Emerald Intel says its database holds more than 51,000 company profiles across every regulated US and Canadian market, more than 200,000 verified contacts with direct dials and email addresses, and more than 500 data points per record. Profiles cover licensed operators as well as ancillary vendors, suppliers and service providers. The data is assembled through what the company calls the Emerald Intelligence Research System (EIRS), which combines proprietary research, public records and AI-assisted validation, and Emerald Intel states that it runs verification checks across the database every day.

License records include license type, status, number and expiration date, and users can filter by license status, state or country of issue, state license type and expiration. A separate compliance data product adds ownership and enforcement history, flags enforcement actions and violations against company profiles, and runs daily checks against federal, state and provincial databases. Emerald Intel markets this product to banks, credit unions, insurance companies and payment processors, and it gives financial institutions parent-child hierarchy data on related companies.

For sales teams, the platform is built for prospecting into dispensaries, cultivators, processors and other licensed businesses. It integrates with HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho CRM and Saleshandy, and contact records synced to a CRM carry all known emails and phone numbers. A Chrome extension shows Emerald Intel data while a user visits operator websites, reads industry news or browses LinkedIn. Emerald Intel's Model Context Protocol (MCP) connection lets AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT work with Emerald Intel data, and the company states that the MCP is included with every subscription at no additional fee.

The tracking system and status for each state come from CannabisRegulations.ai's state pages, not from the vendor.
