Is CBD Legal in Cayman Islands?

Medicinal CBD oil is legal in the Cayman Islands under controlled access. The Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) Law 2016, signed into law on 26 October 2016 and brought into force in 2017, amended the Misuse of Drugs Act to permit the importation, possession, and use of cannabis oil (including CBD-dominant products) for medical purposes on prescription from a registered medical practitioner. The Health Practice Commission and the Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control administer the import authorisation.

Patients with prescriptions may import cannabis oil from licensed overseas sources with prior Ministry of Health approval. CBD wellness products without THC are sold in selected pharmacies and wellness retailers in George Town, but products containing detectable THC remain controlled and require the medical pathway. The Health Practice Commission publishes guidance on the prescribing physicians register and the standard of care expected.
