Is Weed Legal in Honduras?

Recreational and medical marijuana are illegal in Honduras. The Ley sobre el Uso Indebido y Trafico Ilicito de Drogas y Sustancias Psicotropicas (Decree No. 126-89 of 1989) governs all cannabis offenses and treats possession, cultivation, sale, and import as criminal acts.

Personal possession exposes the defendant to mandatory referral to a rehabilitation facility under Article 78, while quantities indicative of trafficking carry six to fifteen years of imprisonment under Articles 33 and 34, with sentences stretching to twenty years for aggravated circumstances. The Direccion de Lucha Contra el Narcotrafico (DLCN) within the National Police, working alongside the Public Ministry's specialized prosecutor's office (FESCCO) and Armed Forces interdiction units, enforces the law. Honduras sits on major Caribbean and Central American transit corridors, so prosecutors frequently pursue trafficking-related cases against accused mules and growers.

No medical cannabis program operates in Honduras. Foreign prescriptions are not honored, and possession of cannabis-based medicines such as Sativex without national authorization is treated as illegal drug possession.
