Industrial hemp is illegal for general cultivation in Uzbekistan. The 1999 narcotics law and the Cabinet of Ministers list of controlled substances cover the entire Cannabis sativa plant, and the Ministry of Agriculture does not register industrial hemp varieties for commercial farming.
Any cultivation is treated under Article 270 of the Criminal Code with fines of 25 to 50 minimum monthly wages and imprisonment up to 3 years, rising to 5 to 10 years for large-scale or organized cultivation. Imports of hemp seed, fiber, and hemp food products are not approved by the State Customs Committee.
