Recreational marijuana is illegal in the Republic of Uzbekistan. Cannabis is controlled under Articles 270 to 276 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Law No. 813-XII of 1999 on Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.
Article 273 punishes illegal possession or use with up to 3 years' correctional labor or up to 3 years' imprisonment, escalating to 3 to 5 years if committed in a group or with prior conviction. Article 270 covers cultivation, fining offenders 25 to 50 minimum monthly wages or imprisonment up to 3 years, rising to 5 to 10 years for organized groups, large plots, or recidivism. Article 246 (smuggling of narcotics) carries 5 to 10 years and confiscation. The National Information-Analytical Center for Drug Control under the Cabinet of Ministers coordinates policy, while the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Customs Committee enforce.

The State Customs Committee screens passengers and cargo at Tashkent International Airport and at the land borders with Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan. Smuggling triggers Article 246 with 5 to 10 years' imprisonment and asset confiscation.
