Cannabis & Hemp Overview

CBD has no legal consumer market in the Faroe Islands. Danish medicines law - the Medicines Act (Laegemiddelloven, LBK No. 99 of 16 January 2018) - applies in the islands, classifying CBD products with medicinal claims or in oral form as medicines requiring authorisation from the Danish Medicines Agency (Laegemiddelstyrelsen). The Agency's published position treats orally administered CBD as an unlicensed medicine; the Euphoriants Act covers any CBD product containing detectable THC above trace levels.

Sundhedsdatastyrelsen and Heilsumalaradid (the Faroese Ministry of Health) have not opened a separate consumer pathway. The only legal route to CBD use is a prescription for Epidyolex via the Faroese hospital service (Landssjukrahusid) under section 21 of the Medicines Act, which permits special-import authorisations. Pharmacies (apotek) in Torshavn and Klaksvik do not stock retail CBD oils, gummies, or capsules.

Import Export Rules for the Country

Import and export of CBD products require Laegemiddelstyrelsen authorisation, which has not been granted for retail sale. TAKS treats unauthorised CBD imports through Vagar Airport and the Torshavn port as breaches of the Medicines Act and, where THC is detectable, of the Euphoriants Act.
