Recreational marijuana is illegal in Liechtenstein. Cannabis is controlled under the Betaubungsmittelgesetz (BetmG, LGBl 1989/093) and Verordnung uber die Betaubungsmittel und die psychotropen Stoffe, with enforcement by the Landespolizei Liechtenstein.
Possession of small quantities can result in administrative fines under Article 19 BetmG, while cultivation, sale, and trafficking are criminal offenses with imprisonment up to three years. The Principality maintains a customs and currency union with Switzerland under the 1923 Treaty, and Swiss narcotic-drug law and Swissmedic determinations heavily influence Liechtenstein practice. Unlike Switzerland's pilot adult-use trials in Basel and Zurich, no equivalent pilot has been authorised in Vaduz or Schaan.
