Recreational marijuana is illegal in Macau. The Macao Special Administrative Region applies Law No. 17/2009 (Prohibition of Illicit Production, Trafficking and Consumption of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances), as amended by Law No. 10/2016 and Law No. 4/2019, which classify cannabis as a Table I-B controlled substance under the framework administered by the Health Bureau (Serviços de Saúde) and the Judiciary Police (Polícia Judiciária).
Possession for personal use of up to five days' supply (Macau case law treats roughly 10 grams of cannabis as the reference quantity) carries imprisonment from 3 months to 1 year or a fine of MOP 600 to MOP 360,000 under Article 14; larger quantities and trafficking carry sentences from 5 to 15 years under Articles 7 and 8. Macau Customs Service screens arrivals at Macau International Airport (Taipa), the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, the Cotai checkpoint, and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge crossing. Casino integrated resorts cooperate with the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau on drug enforcement inside floor areas.
