CBD is illegal in Niue. The Misuse of Drugs Act 1975 (Niue) does not exempt cannabidiol from cannabis controls, and the Department of Health has not authorized any cannabinoid medicine.
Niue Foou Hospital, the country's sole hospital in Alofi, does not dispense cannabinoid prescriptions. New Zealand's 2017 medical cannabis amendments and 2020 reclassification of CBD did not extend to Niue, which legislates independently. CBD oils, capsules, and topicals are treated as cannabis-derived controlled drugs at the border. Travelers arriving on the weekly Air New Zealand flight from Auckland have had CBD products seized at Hanan Field under Niue customs and drugs law.
