Industrial hemp is illegal in Tajikistan. The Ministry of Agriculture does not register industrial hemp varieties, and the 2000 narcotics law treats the entire Cannabis sativa plant as controlled material.
Illegal cultivation under Article 201 of the Criminal Code carries 5 to 10 years for limited plots and up to 25 years for large-scale or organized cultivation. Hemp seed, fiber, and hemp food imports are not approved by the Customs Service. Wild cannabis growth in the Pamir-Alay foothills has historically been a focus of Drug Control Agency eradication operations.
