Industrial hemp is illegal in Turkmenistan. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection does not register hemp varieties for commercial cultivation, and the 2008 narcotics law applies to the whole Cannabis sativa plant without a low-THC exemption.
Any cultivation falls under Article 293 of the Criminal Code with 3 to 10 years' imprisonment, escalating to 12 to 20 years for large-scale activity. Hemp seed, fiber, and hemp food imports are not approved by the State Customs Service.
