Is marijuana legal in Tonga?
Recreational marijuana is illegal in the Kingdom of Tonga. Cannabis is a Class A illicit drug under the Illicit Drugs Control Act 2003, administered by the Tonga Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce and the Tonga Customs and Trade Service.
Is CBD legal in Tonga?
CBD is illegal in Tonga. The Illicit Drugs Control Act 2003 controls cannabis without a cannabidiol exemption, and the Tonga Ministry of Health pharmaceutical registry contains no approved CBD-containing medicines, including Epidyolex.
Is hemp legal in Tonga?
Industrial hemp is illegal in Tonga. The Illicit Drugs Control Act 2003 controls the entire Cannabis sativa L. plant without a low-THC carve-out, and no commercial hemp licensing scheme exists under the Tongan Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forests.

Tonga's Illicit Drugs Control Act (Cap. 10.15, enacted 2003) prohibits cannabis: possession can bring up to five years' imprisonment or a T$10,000 fine, cultivation up to ten years, and supply up to twenty years, with 2020 amendments toughening enforcement. The Act recognises no industrial hemp category, so viable seed of any cannabis variety falls under the same prohibition. No medical cannabis programme exists.
