Cannabis is prohibited in Kiribati under the colonial-era Dangerous Drugs Ordinance 1948, reinforced by 1986 legislation, with section 8 criminalising anyone who knowingly cultivates, possesses or sells the plant. Police may enter premises suspected of holding cannabis without a warrant. The law draws no distinction for low-THC hemp or its seed, and no cultivation licensing framework of any kind exists.
