Is marijuana legal in Nicaragua?
Recreational marijuana is illegal in Nicaragua. Law 735 of 2010, the Law for the Prevention, Investigation and Prosecution of Drug Trafficking and Related Crimes (Ley de Prevencion, Investigacion y Persecucion del Crimen Organizado y de la Administracion de la Justicia en Materia de Delitos Conexos al Narcotrafico), criminalizes possession, cultivation, sale, and transport of cannabis.
Is CBD legal in Nicaragua?
CBD is illegal in Nicaragua for general commercial sale. Law 735 of 2010 treats all cannabis derivatives as controlled substances regardless of THC content, and the Ministry of Health (MINSA) has not registered any cannabidiol product through its drug registration system.
Is hemp legal in Nicaragua?
Industrial hemp is illegal in Nicaragua. Law 735 of 2010 makes no distinction between marijuana and low-THC cannabis varieties, and the Ministry of Agriculture (MAG) issues no cultivation licenses for fiber, seed, or cannabinoid hemp.

Nicaragua is unusual in regulating seeds directly: Law No. 285 (Law on Narcotics, Psychotropic Substances and Other Controlled Substances) prohibits the possession, holding, storage and commerce of cannabis seeds capable of germination unless authorised by the Ministry of Health, and no such authorisations are issued in practice. Penal Code Law No. 641 criminalises cultivation with roughly 5–10 years' imprisonment, so gifting or receiving viable seeds carries the same exposure as any other transfer. There is no industrial hemp program or medical cannabis framework, so even low-THC viable seed has no lawful agricultural pathway as of 2026.
