Is marijuana legal in Mauritius?
Recreational marijuana is illegal in Mauritius. Cannabis (locally gandia) is controlled under the Dangerous Drugs Act 2000 (Act No. 41 of 2000), which lists cannabis, cannabis resin, and tetrahydrocannabinol in Schedule I.
Is CBD legal in Mauritius?
CBD is illegal in Mauritius for general retail. Section 2 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 2000 defines cannabis to include any preparation containing tetrahydrocannabinol or cannabinol, and the Pharmacy Board has not issued a separate carve-out for cannabidiol.
Is hemp legal in Mauritius?
Industrial hemp is illegal in Mauritius. The Dangerous Drugs Act 2000 does not exempt low-THC Cannabis sativa, and the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security has not issued cultivation licenses under either the Plant Protection Act 2006 or the Seeds Act 2013.

The Dangerous Drugs Act 2000 (Act 41 of 2000) defines "gandia" as all parts of the Cannabis sativa or indica plant, which captures viable seeds, and prohibits their sale, possession and cultivation. A November 2022 amendment allows medical cannabis only through authorisation of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, not private seed purchase or home growing. Industrial hemp has been the subject of National Agency for Drug Control policy consultations, but no operational hemp seed licensing regime has been verified, so that pathway remains unclear.
