Is marijuana legal in Slovakia?
Recreational marijuana is illegal in Slovakia. The Act on Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Preparations (Act No. 139/1998 Coll.) lists cannabis as a Schedule I substance, and the Criminal Code (Trestny zakon) criminalizes possession for personal use, although a sweeping criminal-law reform effective 6 August 2024 (Act No. 40/2024 Coll.) softened what had long been one of the harsher cannabis regimes in the EU.
Is CBD legal in Slovakia?
CBD is legal in Slovakia following the 2023 reform that removed cannabidiol from the narcotic schedule. Cannabidiol products derived from EU-approved industrial hemp varieties with no more than 0.3% THC may be sold as cosmetics, dietary supplements, or licensed medicines depending on claims and form.
Is hemp legal in Slovakia?
Industrial hemp is legal in Slovakia when cultivated from EU-certified seed varieties listed in the Common Catalogue with THC content at or below 0.3%.
Can you travel to Slovakia with cannabis or CBD?
Import and export of marijuana are banned and treated as trafficking under Criminal Code Section 173. CBD products move freely within the EU single market under the 0.3% THC limit.

Act No. 139/1998 Coll. on Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Preparations controls cannabis plant material and THC, but viable seeds are not listed as a controlled substance, and Slovak shops openly sell them for collectible purposes. Sowing or growing any cannabis above 0.3% THC remains a criminal offence prosecuted under the Criminal Code (Act 300/2005 Coll.), and Slovakia runs one of the stricter enforcement regimes in the EU. Industrial hemp may be cultivated only with authorisation and using certified EU common-catalogue varieties within the EU THC limit, with obligations to prevent misuse under Act 139/1998.
